Composition

Each film-coated tablet of Furoxim 250 mg contains :

  • Cefuroxime (as axetil): 250 mg.
  • Excipients: S.Q. for one film-coated tablet.

Indications

Furoxim tablets are indicated for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated microorganisms in the conditions listed below:

  • Pharyngitis / Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.
  • Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae (including beta-lactamase-producing strains), Moraxella catarrhalis (including beta-lactamase-producing strains), or Streptococcus pyogenes.
  • Acute Bacterial Maxillary Sinusitis caused by Streptococcus pneumonia or Haemophilus influenzae (non-beta-lactamase-producing strains only).
  • Acute Bacterial Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis and Secondary Bacterial Infections of Acute Bronchitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae (beta-lactamase negative strains), or Haemophilus parainfluenzae (beta-lactamase negative strains).
  • Uncomplicated Skin and Skin-Structure Infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus (including beta-lactamase-producing strains) or Streptococcus pyogenes.
  • Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections caused by Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae.
  • Uncomplicated Gonorrhea caused by non-penicillinase-producing strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
  • Early Lyme disease caused by Borelia burgdorferi.

Dosage & Administration

Adolescents and Adults (13 years and older)

Pharyngitis / tonsillitis:

One tablet of Furoxim – 250 mg twice daily for 10 days.

Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis:

One tablet of Furoxim – 250 mg twice daily for 10 days.

Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis:

One tablet of Furoxim – 250 mg or Furoxim 500 mg twice daily for 10 days.

Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections:

One tablet of Furoxim – 250 mg or Furoxim 500 mg twice daily for 10 days.

Uncomplicated urinary tract infections:

One tablet of Furoxim – 125 mg or Furoxim – 250 mg twice daily for 10 days.

Uncomplicated gonorrhea:

2 tablets of Furoxim – 500 mg once daily (dingle dose).
