BETAPIONATE-A



BETAPIONATE-A ointment is indicated for relieving the inflammatory effects of hyperkeratotic and dry corticosteroid – responsive dermatoses like: psoriasis, chronic atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis such as lichen simplex chronicus, lichen planus, hand eczema, nummular eczema, eczematous dermatitis, dyshidrosis and seborrheic dermatitis of scalp, ichthyosis vulgaris and other ichthyotic conditions.
Description
- DESCRIPTION:
BETAPIONATE-A ointment contains Betamethasone dipropionate and salicylic acid.
Each gram contains 0.5mg Betamethasone, and 30mg salicylic acid.
 
- PHARACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES:
The synthetic corticosteroid such as Betamethasone dipropionate has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive activity. Where as, salicylic acid has keratolytic properties and has bacteriostatic and fungicidal effects.
 
- INDICATIONS:
BETAPIONATE-A ointment is indicated for relieving the inflammatory effects of hyperkeratotic and dry corticosteroid – responsive dermatoses like: psoriasis, chronic atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis such as lichen simplex chronicus, lichen planus, hand eczema, nummular eczema, eczematous dermatitis, dyshidrosis and seborrheic dermatitis of scalp, ichthyosis vulgaris and other ichthyotic conditions.
 
- CONTRAINDICATIONS:
BETAPIONATE-A ointment is contraindicated in patients with sensitivity reactions to any of its components.
 
- SIDE EFFECTS:
The following side effects were reported with the use of topical corticosteroids:
Burning, itching, irritation, dryness of the skin, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, allergic contact dermatitis.
The use of occlusive dressing may increase skin atrophy and secondary infection; the salicylic acid may cause dermatitis.
 
- WARNINGS:
The use of BETAPIONATE-A ointment should be discontinued if sensitization develops, or secondary infection had happened, in this case ,it may need to apply appropriate therapy.
Caution should be taken when occlusive dressing is used or if extensive body surface areas are treated or when long-term use are applied, because all these factors will increases the systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids or salicylic acid. avoid contact with eyes, also caution & warning should be taken when application is done for pediatric patients, since the use of topical corticosteroids may cause suppression of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Cushing’s syndrome or intracranial hypertension have been reported in children receiving topical corticosteroids.
  
-USE IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
Safety of topical corticosteroids had not been studied well during pregnancy, so the drug of this class should not be used during pregnancy extensively or in large amounts or for prolonged periods of time.
And because it is not known whether topical administration of corticosteroids can result in sufficient systemic absorption to produce detectable quantities in breast milk, a decision should be made to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
 
- DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Apply a thin layer of BETAPIONATE-A ointment to the affected area of the skin twice daily.
 
- PACKING:
Tube contains 15 grams of the ointment. Store below 30˚ C.
