OBARGIN (methylergometrine) is a potent and specific uterotonic agent.

It acts directly on the smooth muscle of the uterus and increases the tone, rate, and amplitude of rhythmic contractions.

Each ampoule of OBARGIN contains: 0.2 mg of methylergometrine maleate / 1 ml.

  • Active management of the third stage of labor (to promote separation of the placenta and to reduce blood loss).
  • Treatment of uterine atony / hemorrhage occurring:
  1. During and after the third stage of labor.
  2. In association with caesarean section.
  3. Following abortion.
  • Treatment of subinvolution of the uterus, lochiometra, puerperal bleeding.

Pregnancy& breast-feeding

  • Pregnancy: Use of methylergometrine is contraindicated during pregnancy because of its uterotonic effects. (Pregnancy category: C).
  • Breast-feeding: methylergometrine should not breast-feed during treatment with methylergometrine and at least 12 hours after administration of the last dose.

Active management of the third stage of labor 0.5 to 1 ml = (0.1 to 0.2 mg) by slow intravenous injection or by intramuscular injection following the delivery of the anterior shoulder or after the expulsion of the placenta or immediately after the delivery of the child.

For delivery under general anesthesia the recommended dose is 1 ml = (0.2 mg).
