FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg, a medication that belongs to the nitro-imidazole class (Anti-Infectives), primarily used to treat a wide range of disorders resulting from infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. It works by inhibiting the replication of these micro-organisms.

FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is considered a suitable treatment option for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

Each F.C tablet of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg contains 500 mg Secnidazole.

FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg F.C tablets are indicated for the treatment of a wide range of disorders caused by anaerobic bacterial infections, including:

Genitourinary Infections: Trichomoniasis in both male and female individuals.

Gynecological Infections: Endometritis, tub-ovarian abscess, and non-specific vaginitis.

Respiratory Infections: Pneumonia, empyema, and lung abscess.

Skin Infections: Infections of the skin and soft tissues.

Bloodstream Infections: Bacteremia caused by anaerobic bacteria.

Dental Infections: Acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis.

Gastrointestinal Infections: Giardiasis, intestinal amebiasis, and amebic liver abscess and it can be used in H. Pylori induced ulcer (off-label).

Intra-abdominal Infections: Peritonitis and intra-abdominal abscess.

FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg F.C tablets can also be used to prevent post-operative infections caused by anaerobic bacteria, particularly those associated with colorectal, gastrointestinal, and gynecological surgeries.

Children:

The efficacy of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg F.C tablets has not been established in children under 12 years of age.

Pregnancy& breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg.

FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg should not be used whilst breastfeeding because of small amounts FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg appear in breast milk.

Treatment of disorders caused by anaerobic bacterial infections:

Adults: The recommended initial dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 4 F.C tablets (2000 mg) on the first day, followed by 2 tablets (1000 mg) once daily or 1 tablet (500 mg) twice daily.

Trichomoniasis:

Adults: The recommended dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 4 F.C tablets (2000 mg) taken as a single dose.

Non-specific vaginitis:

Adults: The recommended dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 4 F.C tablets (2000 mg) as a single dose. In severe cases, 4 F.C tablets daily for two consecutive days may be required.

Acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis:

Adults: The recommended dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 4 F.C tablets (2000 mg) taken as a single dose.

Giardiasis:

Adults: The recommended dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 4 F.C tablets (2000 mg).

Children: The recommended dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 30 mg/kg/day.

Amebic dysentery:

Adults: The recommended dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 4 F.C tablets (2000 mg) as a single dose. In severe cases, 4 F.C tablets daily for 3 days may be required.

Children: The recommended dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 30 mg/kg/day.

Amebic hepatitis:

Adults: The recommended dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 3 F.C tablets (1500 mg) for up to 5 days.

Children: The recommended dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 30 mg/kg/day.

Prevention of post-operative infections:

Adults: The recommended dose of FLAGENTYL - PRO 500 mg is 4 F.C tablets (2000 mg) administered approximately 12 hours before surgery.

The dosage should be administration at the beginning of a meal.
