OBARVAL 5 mg belongs to a class of medications known as benzodiazepines and is primarily used for the treatment of anxiety and stress-related disorders.

OBARVAL 5 mg works by enhancing the effect of Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA) in the brain, which helps reduce excessive electrical activity, leads to a feeling of relaxation and calmness.

OBARVAL 5 mg is considered an ideal option for patients with chronic anxiety disorders or nervous tension due to its high efficacy in providing fast and safe relief.

Each tablet of OBARVAL 5 mg contains 5 mg Diazepam.

OBARVAL 5 mg is used to reduce psychological and emotional disturbances, such as fear and anxiety. It also acts as a sedative, muscle relaxant, and antispasmodic.

OBARVAL 5 mg is also indicated for medical conditions associated with psychogenic stress symptoms, anxiety, phobias, neurotic obsessions, and psychosomatic disorders, such as the following conditions:

Cardiovascular diseases, Duodenal ulcers, Intestinal spasms, Migraine and tension-induced headaches.

OBARVAL 5 mg is beneficial for reducing symptoms associated with acute alcohol withdrawal, such as severe agitation, tremors, impending or severe delirium tremens, and hallucinations.

OBARVAL 5 mg is also indicated for treatment of seizure disorder.

OBARVAL 5 mg is effective in reducing spasms associated with menopausal syndrome in women and stiff-person syndrome.

Children:

OBARVAL 5 mg is not indicated for use in children under 6 months of age.

Pregnancy& breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking OBARVAL 5 mg.

using OBARVAL 5 mg during pregnancy may increase the risk of congenital malformations.

There are also non-teratogenic risks associated with using OBARVAL 5 mg, such as respiratory muscle weakness, breastfeeding issues, and hypothermia in infants born to mothers who have used OBARVAL 5 mg late in pregnancy.

Infants born to mothers who used OBARVAL 5 mg late in pregnancy may also be at risk of experiencing withdrawal symptoms in the postnatal period.

Pregnancy Category: D.

OBARVAL 5 mg should not be used whilst breastfeeding because of certain amounts OBARVAL 5 mg appear in breast milk.

Adults:

• The recommended dose of OBARVAL 5 mg for reducing severe anxiety and tension is between 2 mg to 10 mg, taken 2 to 4 times daily, depending on the severity of the symptoms.

• The recommended dose of OBARVAL 5 mg for reducing acute muscle spasms is 2 mg to 10 mg, taken 3 to 4 times daily.

• The recommended dose of OBARVAL 5 mg for managing conditions associated with persistent epilepsy is 2 mg to 10 mg, taken 3 to 4 times daily.

• The recommended dose of OBARVAL 5 mg for reducing symptoms associated with acute alcohol withdrawal is 10 mg, taken 3 to 4 times on the first day, then the dose is reduced to 5 mg, taken 3 to 4 times daily as needed.

Elderly:

The recommended dose of OBARVAL 5 mg for elderly patients is a tablet once daily, with gradual dose adjustments made as needed.

Children (7 months of age and older):

The recommended dose for children is 1 mg to 2.5 mg, 3 to 4 times daily initially, with gradual dose adjustments made as needed.

The effectiveness of OBARVAL 5 mg in long-term use, that is, more than 4 months, has not been assessed by systematic clinical studies. The physician should periodically reassess the usefulness of the drug for the individual patient.
