Furoxim contains Cefuroxime which is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. This medication belongs to a class of drugs called Second generation of Cephalosporines. It works by stopping the making of bacterial wall. This antibiotic treat only bacterial infections. It will not work for virus infections (such as common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.
Each film coated tablet of Furoxim contains 500 mg of Cefuroxime.
Adults
Pharyngitis/tonsillitis
Furoxim tablets are indicated for the treatment of adult patients and pediatric patients (13 years 5 and older) with mild-to-moderate pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by susceptible strains of 6 Streptococcus pyogenes.
Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis
Furoxim tablets are indicated for the treatment of adult and pediatric patients (13 years and older) with mild-to-moderate acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by susceptible strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae.
Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis
Furoxim tablets are indicated for the treatment of adult patients and pediatric patients (aged 13 and older) with mild-to-moderate acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis caused by susceptible strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae or Haemophilus parainfluenzae (b-lactamase–negative strains).
Uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections
Furoxim tablets are indicated for the treatment of adult patients and pediatric patients (aged 13 and older) with uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections caused by susceptible strains of Staphylococcus aureus (including b-lactamase–producing strains) or Streptococcus pyogenes.
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
Furoxim tablets are indicated for the treatment of adult patients and pediatric patients (aged 13 and older) with uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by susceptible strains of Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae.
Uncomplicated gonorrhea
Furoxim tablets are indicated for the treatment of adult patients and pediatric patients (aged 13 and older) with uncomplicated gonorrhea, urethral and endocervical, caused by penicillinase56 producing and non-penicillinase–producing susceptible strains of Neisseria gonorrhoea.
Early Lyme disease
Furoxim tablets are indicated for the treatment of adult patients and pediatric patients (aged 13 and older) with early Lyme disease (erythema migrans) caused by susceptible strains of Borrelia burgdorferi.
Children and adolescents
The safety and effectiveness of Furoxim have been confirmed for pediatric patients aged between 3 months and 12 years. The tablet form is given to children aged 13 years and above who are able to take this form.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy Category B.
Available data from published epidemiologic studies, case series, and case reports over several decades in pregnant women have not established drug-associated risks of major birth defects, miscarriage, or adverse maternal or fetal outcomes.
Based on several published case reports describing multiple lactating women receiving therapy via intravenous, intramuscular, and oral routes, drug is present in human milk.
No data are available on effects of drug on breastfed infant or on milk production; developmental and health benefits of breastfeeding should be considered along with the mother’s clinical need for therapy and any potential adverse effects on breastfed infant from drug or from underlying maternal condition
Adults:
Pediatric Patients younger than 13 years (who can swallow tablets whole):
Furoxim tablets can be taken with or without food, drink fluids liberally.
