Lactabet contains Cefdinir which is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. This medication belongs to a class of drugs called Third generation of Cephalosporines. It works by stopping the making of bacterial wall. This antibiotic treat only bacterial infections. It will not work for virus infections (such as common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.

Each coated capsule of Lactabet contains 300 mg of Cefdinir.

Pregnancy& breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Pregnancy Category B.

There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.

Following administration of single 600-mg doses, cefdinir was not detected in human breast milk.

The total daily dose for all infections is 600 mg. Once-daily dosing for 10 days is as effective as BID dosing. Once-daily dosing has not been studied in pneumonia or skin infections; therefore, Lactabet Capsules should be administered twice daily in these infections.

Adults:

  • Community-Acquired Pneumonia: 300 mg every 12 hours for 10 days.
  •  Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis: 300 mg every 12 hours or 600mg every 24 hours for 5 - 10 days.
